Staff will prepare a map of proposed Groundwater Recharge Protection Development Permit Area boundaries based on 2, 5 and 10 hectares of lot coverage, after the Galiano Local Trust Committee endorsed the boundary-setting methodology at its June 6 meeting.[1]

The committee’s motion asks staff to include the map in a draft amendment to Galiano’s Official Community Plan, identified in the minutes as Bylaw No. 283.[1]

Senior Freshwater Specialist William Shulba said the groundwater sustainability project aims to protect Galiano’s water resources and ecosystems that rely on groundwater.[1]

The committee also directed staff to explore options for ensuring groundwater use at the Crystal Mountain application is consistent with proposed water-licence capacity, including a covenant approach and further restrictions on use.[1]
