Galiano housing bylaws sent for Islands Trust approval

The Galiano Island Local Trust Committee advanced three proposed bylaws for affordable rental housing and sent them for further approvals.

The Galiano Island Local Trust Committee voted to forward proposed Bylaws No. 274, No. 276 and No. 277 to the Secretary of the Islands Trust for Executive Committee Approval. [1] The committee also voted to forward proposed Bylaw No. 277 to the Minister of Municipal Affairs for approval. [1]

The bylaws concern the Gulf Islands Galise Affordable Rental Housing Society proposal, identified in the minutes as GL-RZ-2019.1. [1] The committee gave proposed Bylaws No. 276 and No. 277 third readings, and gave proposed Bylaw No. 274 three readings. [1]

Chair Dan Rogers stated that the referral would be on the Executive Committee agenda August 3, 2022. [1] Island Planner Brad Smith said everything was in order to facilitate review by the Minister of Municipal Affairs. [1]

The committee also directed staff to explore a covenant between the Galiano Island Local Trust Committee and Galiano Club regarding limitation on further development on the remainder parcel. [1]

The special meeting was held July 16, 2022, at Galiano South Community Hall, with approximately one hundred and sixteen members of the public attending by Zoom and in person. [1]
