The proposed groundwater rules would move to a public hearing after the Galiano Island Local Trust Committee gave first readings to amendments to its Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw at its March 14 meeting.[1]
The committee also determined the two bylaws were not contrary to or at variance with the Islands Trust Policy Statement, and asked staff to schedule the hearing.[1]
During discussion, staff said the Community Forest property was excluded from the proposed Development Permit Area because of a covenant on the property.[1]
The committee requested legal advice on whether a proposed exemption for land owned by a person with federal Indigenous status living in their traditional territory, with proof of Indigenous family lineage, aligns with several laws and declarations.[1]
