The Galiano Local Trust Committee voted not to issue a temporary use permit for storing up to two tons of aggregate for three years, with an option to renew; the minutes say the next step would be a rezoning application.[1]
Planner Charly Caproff told the committee that submissions included 11 against the permit, three in favour and a petition with 80 signatures supporting it.[1]
Trustee Lisa Gauvreau said she was not prepared to permit the application at that time and that only a rezoning would be considered; Chair Timothy Peterson agreed and said ongoing non-conforming operations should cease before a rezoning application proceeded.[1]
The recording includes a speaker supporting the permit who said a local stockpile could reduce ferry trips and costs for customers, and speakers opposing it who raised concerns about traffic, water and the suitability of the site.[2]
The committee’s motion not to approve the permit carried, and the minutes record that the meeting adjourned at 3:15 p.m.[1]
