The Galiano Island Local Trust Committee deferred further readings of proposed bylaws for the Crystal Mountain rezoning until it hears back from Islands Trust staff about consultation with the Penelakut Tribe.[1]
The committee directed staff to conduct further consultation with the Penelakut Tribe on the application, and asked Trust Council to prioritize a review of the Islands Trust First Nations Bylaw Referral Process for consideration at its June 27-29 agenda.[1]
The minutes say staff had reported that the bylaw referral process to agencies and First Nations was complete, but that the Penelakut had recently responded that they had not been adequately consulted.[1]
The committee also directed staff to work with the applicant on adding a condition to the s.219 covenant requiring annual monitoring of its conditions by a third party.[1]
