The Galiano Local Trust Committee endorsed an amended business case for an Official Community Plan review and directed staff to forward it to relevant committees and Trust Council. The endorsement does not itself approve funding for the project.[1]
The committee also amended the business case to increase First Nations capacity funding for fiscal year 2027/28 from $10,000 to $35,000. Both motions carried.[1]
The minutes say the proposed review would span three years, with its first year focused on understanding First Nations’ perspectives and priorities, and would include a Freshwater Footprint component.[1]
During public participation, speakers raised questions about community involvement, First Nations participation, the timing of the proposal and how the review would relate to work on the Trust Policy Statement. The minutes record staff’s view that advancing the business case would give the incoming committee the option of pursuing the project, while leaving the decision to that committee.[1]
