Galiano committee advances Palmberg rezoning application
Staff will prepare draft bylaws for a proposal that includes works, industrial and cider and wine uses.

The Galiano Island Local Trust Committee directed staff to proceed with application PL-RZ-2024-0003 and prepare draft bylaws for a rezoning proposal that includes a works yard, contractor’s workshop, storage and sale of gravel, soil and aggregates, sawmilling, painting, manufacturing of wood products, and the production and sale of cider and wine.[1]
The committee’s February 11 meeting minutes say the applicant provided an updated site plan, well construction report and detailed business plan describing a phased approach.[1]
Island Planner Kim Stockdill said the proposed accessory uses do not necessarily fit the rural zoning designation and that staff would need further analysis to determine whether an Official Community Plan amendment would be required.[1]
The minutes say the committee could require registration of a Section 219 covenant to allow further regulation of uses that might not fit in the Land Use Bylaw amendment.[1]
If the application moves forward, staff said a septic disposal report, ecological report and groundwater management plan would be required.[1]
The motion to proceed with the application and prepare draft bylaws carried.[1]
