The Galiano Island Local Trust Committee scheduled a community information meeting and public hearing for the Groundwater Sustainability Project on October 8, 2024. [1]
Island Planner Kim Stockdill said staff recommend second referrals highlighting Exemption ‘p’, which would provide an exemption from a Development Permit where land is owned by a person with federal Indigenous status living in their traditional territory with proof of Indigenous family lineage. [1]
The minutes say staff have met with Penelakut Tribe, Coast Salish Peoples of Galiano, and members of an Indigenous family with historical ties to Galiano Island about the project. [1]
At the meeting, Stockdill said the public hearing had been moved to October so a staff report could be provided at the September 2024 Local Trust Committee meeting; specific questions can be sent to staff for consideration in that report. [1]
