Galiano trustees advance Bylaw 297 for approval
The Local Trust Committee gave second and third readings to a bylaw allowing specified non-residential uses on a residentially zoned lot without a residence.

The Galiano Island Local Trust Committee gave second and third readings to proposed Bylaw No. 297 and forwarded it to the Secretary of the Islands Trust for Executive Committee approval. [1]
The minutes say the bylaw would enable non-residential uses on a residentially zoned lot that does not have a residence. The lot would not be eligible for subdivision, and would still be allowed to have one house. [1]
During the community information meeting and public hearing, questions and comments addressed events, noise, water use, wells, agricultural activity and the proposed covenant. Staff said the application had been referred to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit and other agencies, and that their input was considered. [1]
The minutes record that the committee acknowledged public comments, expressed confidence in the restrictions and conditions of the covenant, noted that water use would be monitored through well licensing, and reiterated support for the application given by Penelakut Tribes members. [1]
The committee also gave first reading to amended Bylaw No. 300, concerning boat-access-only lots on associated islands and Phillimore Point. It requested options concerning a definition of “dock,” solar panels within the setback to the natural boundary of the sea, and existing wooden structures. [1]
