Galiano trustees advance bylaws for District Lots 85 and 86

The Galiano Island Local Trust Committee gave third readings to amended bylaws for District Lots 85 and 86 and forwarded them for approval by the Islands Trust Executive Committee and the Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs. [1]
The rezoning applications seek residential uses, including Forest 3 use, a nature protection portion and a park portion. District Lot 85 proposes 5 rural residential lots, a larger nature protection lot to be transferred to Penelakut Tribes, a community park and a Forest 3 zone. [1]
The committee requested that staff work with the Capital Regional District to draft a Statutory Right of Way for emergency access on District Lot 85. [1]
For the bylaws concerning District Lot 85, the committee amended the proposed Official Community Plan bylaw by deleting “aggregate extraction” and moving the word “and” before “trails.” It also amended the land-use bylaw to delete “Forest Industrial (c) – (FI(c)),” delete “aggregate extraction,” and add “non-profit park or conservation society” after “Capital Regional District.” [1]
The minutes state that, once the bylaws are approved, the applicant can move forward to subdivision, covenants would be registered on titles, and land would be transferred to the Penelakut. [1]
