The Galiano Island Local Trust Committee directed staff to proceed with the Harris rezoning application and prepare draft bylaws and a housing agreement for a proposal allowing 12 affordable housing units and common rooms. [1]
The property is currently zoned for rural residential use and commercial private film school use, while buildings that housed film school students are now being used for five affordable housing units, a use that does not comply with existing zoning. [1]
The staff report said a water licence and sewage system are in place and upgrades have been made to existing buildings. [1]
The proposed zoning would allow only affordable housing, with a housing agreement attached; the agreement would authorize the Local Trust Committee to ensure the development provides affordable housing in perpetuity. [1]
