Galiano trustees seek more input on two rezoning applications

The Galiano Island Local Trust Committee received staff reports on two rezoning applications for information, while trustees expressed a preference for more time for public input and a formal response from the Penelakut Tribe before proceeding. [1]
For GL-RZ-2021.2, Island Planner Kim Stockdill reviewed the staff report, and trustees said drafting bylaws could show what might work; they also preferred receiving information from the Penelakut Tribe before describing conditions and requirements in draft bylaws. [1]
For GL-RZ-2023.2, trustees expressed a preference for further discussion and a more formal response from the Penelakut Tribe before proceeding. [1]
The applicants for GL-RZ-2021.2 said input from the Penelakut Tribe and the public was essential, but that development of draft bylaws should not be slowed. [1]
The minutes record that the applicants also said the proposed donation could make Galiano safer, including through funding donated to the fire department or Health Care Society. [1]
The next regular meeting was scheduled for February 13, 2024, at the South Community Hall on Galiano Island. [1]
